On the centenary of his birth, Palazzo Tarasconi pays tribute to Roy Lichtenstein (New York 1923) – one of the greatest interpreters of 20th century art and a master of Pop ART – with the exhibition ROY LICHTENSTEIN. Variazioni Pop. The exhibition, curated by Gianni Mercurio and produced by GCR, General Service and Security, Saga MDS with the Artistic Direction of WeAreBeside, on MADEINART conception, deals with the numerous themes addressed by the great American artist through a selection of over 50 works (editions and serigraphs, experiments on metal, fabrics and sculptures as well as photographs and videos) from prestigious European and American collections.
Following a mainly chronological trend that coincides with a thematic development, the exhibition traces Lichtenstein’s whole artistic career starting from the 1960s. Here we find his themes and genres, from comics to advertising, still life, landscape; his forays into abstract art and the forms of the great masters; the two-dimensional interiors; the series of female nudes. The ROY LICHTENSTEIN.
Variazioni Pop exhibition opens the year that Palazzo Tarasconi will dedicate to America and Pop Art, an artistic genre capable of transporting the cultural and commercial evolution of coheval American society onto the plane of colour.
