During the two-year period of Parma as the Italian Capital of Culture, the Building Castles in the Sky exhibition brought to Palazzo Tarasconi Banksy, the most mysterious and sought-after living artist, considered one of the greatest exponents of Street Art at a world-wide level.
Curated by Stefano Antonelli, Gianluca Marziani, Acoris Andipa and Marzio Dall’Acqua, the exhibition was produced and organized by the Archivio Antonio Ligabue Foundation from Parma and the MetaMorfosi Association. The show recorded over 50,000 visitors.
Over 100 works on display including some paintings, the most important serigraphs and numerous stencils that allowed the public to admire the artist’s most iconic production, some installation objects and a selection of memorabilia in a long journey through the revolutionary poetics of the English writer, whose true identity still remains unknown.
Mysterious and unusual was the episode related to the exhibition that attracted the attention of the national press, artists and experts in the sector. On 26 November 2021, a mural appeared on the external walls of the Palazzo and it was immediately attributed to Banksy due to the style and its recalling the famous work Girl with Balloon, though arousing many doubts –as well as much interest. Later defined as by “unknown author”, the work is still visible on the wall of the building overlooking Strada al Ponte Caprazucca.
